Systemic Team Coaching® is the largest global coaching partnership between Renewal Associates, the Academy of Executive Coaching (AoEC) and Coaching.com. This partnership is itself a living example of operating as a ‘team of teams’ that functions and more than the sum of its parts.
Renewal Associates and The AoEC jointly manage hybrid and virtual trainings, both open programs for individuals and in house for organizations, (in-person, virtual and hybrid) internationally. They have five global hubs (UK, North America, South Africa, China, and Singapore) as well as running certificate practitioner level programs in many other countries.
Peter Hawkins and John Leary-Joyce pioneered the first ever trainings in Systemic Team Coaching® in 2010 with other senior colleagues and have both remained active in developing these programs as well as the field of Systemic Team Coaching® ever since.
Coaching.com and Renewal Associates together manage and deliver a Systemic Team Coaching® global virtual coaching platform trainings which have been running since 2019 and have participants from over 100 countries around the world.
There is a joint Academic Board which includes all leaders of the various hubs and programs and oversees the award of certificates and diplomas, the training and accreditation of trainers, the accreditation of team coach supervisors as well as ensuring the quality of all programs.
Through this partnership we have the largest global alumni of Systemic Team Coaches with 3,000 at practitioner level and 500 at senior practitioner level.
Renewal Associates, AoEC and Coaching.com have developed a rich, more sustainable learning experience than other forms of team or group development. For people with strong coaching skills and/or an understanding of team development, it presents an opportunity for them to expand their practice from working with individuals to enabling teams to function at their highest possible level.
Through our ‘systemic’ approach, we facilitate the team in responding to the various systems in which they operate. Most team coaching focuses on the team’s internal ways of working and relationships; Systemic Team Coaching® looks more broadly at the influences and connections outside the team, not just within it.
These wider systems include the team’s direct reports and sub‑teams, their internal stakeholders, customers, shareholders – and beyond to the political, environmental, economic, social/cultural, and technical systems and which will always influence them. Exploring these systems is a central theme in our team coach training programs.
A key component of our approach is seeing ‘The Team’ (including the team leader) as the Client and viewing it as a subset of the Organizational system. This makes Stakeholder engagement, as well as attention to the wider environmental context a key aspect of the team coaching. Working with the team at this level is challenging and demanding as well as rich and rewarding. Our experience is that this is the hallmark of highly effective team coaching.
